Videos to find a mentor

Companies do consider your past performance before deciding whether to fire you or not. Microsoft specifically fired 10,000 employees out of their entire 200,000 workforces. It is evident that maybe apart from Twitter no other company has laid off employees without considering a proper review of their performance. Tech layoffs are still happening and there’s not much chance that these layoffs will stop anytime soon. This makes it more important to know how you can avoid getting laid off during the recession 2023. This video contains 7 things you can do to avoid getting laid off during a recession. This video will help you learn how to become irreplaceable at work. You will learn how to save your job during recession.
The first tip is about positive reinforcement. Your manager is the connecting link between you and the senior leadership of your company. If your manager puts in a good review of your work then it’s more likely than not that you’ll be retained by the company. In order to ensure that your manager thinks positively about you positive reinforcement from your side is necessary. Every 15 days or so you can schedule a call with your manager to discuss what are things you’re doing right at work. Don’t ask about your mistakes or areas of improvement but only ask about what you’re doing well. This will help you understand how to impress your manager.
This will help your manager think about the good things you are doing and thus s/he will remember it while reviewing your performance. Because of this, you might be spared during layoffs. In case your entire team gets laid off you need to ask yourself what are your unique strengths. If a manager is asked to fire an employee from their team they are more likely to fire employees from sections they have plenty of people working in.
For example, if there is only a limited number of frontend developers in the company then firing a frontend developer will put excess stress on the existing employees and the whole project might get derailed. Instead, if there is a greater number of backend developers then for sure the company will be in a better position to fire backend developers. In order to ensure that you’re in the lot that doesn’t get fired you have to get out of the herd. You must develop a unique skill. It can be a combination of skills or can be an addition to what you already know. The third thing you need to do is find a mentor.
The objective of this is to find more people at work who can support you. If you have better connections in the company you can get to know about the upcoming layoffs sooner than later. The fourth thing is to focus on the role of other teams in your company. Train freshers from other teams or help the managers from other teams in some of their work. This will increase the company’s dependence on you. If you’re working on multiple projects from multiple managers and have many mentors in place as well, your chances of getting fired reduce significantly. Lastly, because of having a broader network, you’ll be in a better position to look for and crack that new job.
The fifth thing is to make somebody else’s life easier. Good communication can help you in this regard. If you make your manager’s life easier it will be a great thing to prevent getting laid off. Since the market is tough right now, you can work a little extra if you have to. It’s better to work a few hours extra than not have a job at all. Companies and managers would also prefer to have someone on their team who is willing to do extra work in times of need.
