#766 Tekken 7 (PC/Steam) Unplayable Characters (2/4): Kid Kazuya playthrough.
A playthrough of the unplayable character Kid Kazuya/Child Kazuya in the PC/Steam version of Namco’s Tekken 7.
A huge thanks to the user Demon Scorp for giving me the character values for this game, as well as a cheat-engine table to be able to easily access them. He saved me a lot of time and trouble and I appreciate him greatly for it.
So, a kiddy version of Kazuya. The first thing to mention about him is LOOK AT HIS FUCKING FACE DURING THE WIN SCREEN AHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAH.
I don’t think I’ve ever laughed this hard while recording a playthrough before. Usually it’s shrieks of horror at the abomination I’ve unleashed upon the world. Admittedly, this is still an abomination, but certainly one of the funnier ones.
Kid Kazuya is playable as a part of the story mode, in which he fights the younger version of Heihachi. In canon, Kazuya as a child was thrown off of a mountain by his father Heihachi, in an act which I like to call the “John Wayne School of Thought on Parenting”. Heihachi did this to make him strong (or some BS like that), but instead it unleashed the devil gene from within him, which led to Kazuya eventually returning the favour by throwing Heihachi off of a cliff. Then Heihachi threw Kazuya into a volcano, and then Kazuya threw Heihachi into a volcano in this game, and my god is it convoluted and hilarious. It was also one of the only (vaguely) canon things to be included in the Tekken anime movie, although despite being non-canon that film actually got a lot correct, just not canonically correct.
What also makes absolutely no sense about this excuse of a plotline is the question of why Heihachi would throw his only son and heir off of a cliff. Sorry, is this ancient Sparta? Where he did even he get this idea from? Is he just that nostalgic about the brutality of the Japanese Empire? Wait, actually, that one might have some credence, best to move on.
Harada and Co., in their infinite wisdom, allow you to relive one of the defining moments of the Tekken story over and over again in the story mode of Tekken 7. This means of course that the kid version of Kazuya is hackable and playable in arcade mode, where things get worse for him as he has to fight not only his dad, but his mum as well! And in a demonic form no less. As you might expect, Kazuya’s moveset here is very limited yet still actually quite competent. With enough skill (and luck) you can potentially finish the game with him, as although his reach is quite shit and his moves rather slow, he does have a number of hard-hitting punches which can devastate the opponent’s health if you’re able to land them. Indeed, that final fight against Devil Kazumi may not have looked intense, but it sure as hell was for me when it came down to the wire like that.
Kid Kazuya has certain problems though. One is the fact that his moveset is very limited and non-viable (although not as limited as the next character). The other is that his face just so happens to glitch up in the most hilarious way possible, turning him into a freakish-looking goblin thing between matches for some strange reason. I can’t even count the number of times I cracked up laughing at it, and it made the matches even more difficult as a result, which wasn’t the best of times for it. Still, definitely one of the most entertaining videos I’ve been able to do.
That’s a good thing certainly, as the next video will be one of the single most disappointing ones I’ll ever do.
