8 Minutes Of The Unliving - Exclusive Gameplay
251Coming from Team17 and RocketBrush Studio, The Unliving is a special kind of real-time strategy game that injects elements of dark fantasy into the mold of a roguelike. Playing as a necromancer, you'll use your unholy powers to raise the dead and command an army against mortals protecting small towns and vast kingdoms. While you'll start out battling peasants with pitchforks and torches, you'll eventually face off against elite mercenaries and holy priests who are skilled in taking out the undead. But in true roguelike fashion, death is but a moment of learning, and you'll need to pick yourself up and try again to conquer the mortal realm.
In this GameSpot exclusive for Play For All, we're showing off new gameplay from The Unliving, set for release on PC. In this demo, we're seeing footage of the early missions in the game, where you're a handle of the basics for raising the dead and unleashing them on your enemies. Blending roguelike gameplay with an RTS, each map set of enemies is randomized, making each run feel unique and fresh. As the necromancer, you'll be able to command units and send them off against your foes. While the common zombie grunts are great with brute force, the more sophisticated minions will be able to use unique skills to topple defenses and take out elite enemies. After an area has been cleared, you'll be able to resurrect fallen foes to expand your army, giving you more allies in your campaign.
