Action Smacchan is on another hardcore platforming adventure with this recommendation for the Wii U eShop. This platformer game is another Wii U Virtual Console title that originated on the TurboGrafx-16. It serves as a time capsule for 90's anime and gaming with its bright, urban setting, 16-bit pixel animations, vaporwave backgrounds, bombastic chiptune music, and oldschool anime character designs! This game resonates with Action Smacchan since the game puts the player in the shoes of a classic Henshin Hero, a superhero much in the same vein as those seen in tokusatsu like Kamen Rider, Super Sentai, or Ultraman...the same as Smacchan! The game graciously gives the player the choice of 2 characters to play as: Arnold and Sonya. Of course, since Action Smacchan is a man of culture, he had to choose the 90s anime waifu, Sonya! The gameplay is very reminiscent of classic Mega Man games with the intense run-and-gun mechanics and intensive platforming. The challenge doesn't end at 2D side-scrolling platforming, however. This video game also includes side-scrolling Shoot 'em Up gameplay to keep the players on their toes and the shmup section is just as hardcore as the platforming sections!

Shockman has never left the Turbografx-16 aside from the Virtual Console, so this obscure platformer is easily seen as a Hidden Gem to modern audiences. Finding a Turbografx-16 and a cartridge of Shockman is guaranteed to be more expensive than what the below $10 price point of the Wii U eShop.
