9F) Hibachi (Labyrinth of Touhou 1 Special Disc)
0This fight is another damage race, and another reference to CAVE's shooters, this one being an explicit reference to the recurring Hibachi boss from the DoDonPachi series.
While the post-game has had a bunch of damage races with speedy opponents, the Hibachi is probably the speediest, damage raciest of all of them, as the Hibachi has an insanely high SPD stat of 620 (that's faster than the remaining Bloodstained bosses, and faster than even some of the expansion bosses).
This boss fights on a semi-fixed turn order.
Turn 1: Needle Parade
Turns 2-4: Random Pool of Attacks 1
Turn 5: Needle Parade
Turns 6-9: Random Pool of Attacks 2
Turn 10: Needle Parade
After turn 10, it always uses Needle Parade every five turns (aka on Turn 15, Turn 20 etc.)
On turns 2-4, the Hibachi is restricted to row targeting moves like Samidare Slash (NON-E), Giant Whirlwind (WND) and Sealing Slash (NON-E, inflicts SIL), though it may also use Hyperspace Slash (NON-E AOE that inflicts DTH).
On turns 6-9, the Hibachi is restricted to Magical Light (MYS, row attack), Napalm Flare (FIR, row attack), Ultimate Light Cannon (WND AOE) and Dual Colorful Light (NON-E, row attack, very dangerous).
Once you've dropped its HP below 200K, it has a 50% chance of Dual Funeral Washing Machine, which is a composite AOE that really, really hurts. Like the other Bloodstained bosses, you have to kill this thing before it can fire (or before it can fire a second time).
I'm not a big fan of this fight. While the Hibachi only uses Needle Parade on scripted turns, there's not much you can do if it sticks to its stronger attacks (like Dual Colorful Light). I'd say "try and wait out the Hibachi's more dangerous pool of attacks with Tenshi" but Tenshi still takes damage from certain attacks, even with full buffs.
At least the boss doesn't have much HP (only 1.2M). An unbuffed nuker hitting the Hibachi for 100K is still deleting almost 10% of this boss' HP. You'll still want buffs (especially on Marisa) to avoid that final phase though.
Music is Hibachi's theme from DoDonPachi DaiFukkatsu / DoDonPachi Resurrection. The actual track name is just... look it up yourself. Lol.
