A breath of fresh air for the Philippines to get K239 MLRS made in South Korea
It is reported that several Philippine defense officials attended the KTSSM missile test firing from a K239 Chunmoo multi-barreled rocket launcher (MLRS) on December 21, 2022 directly in South Korea.
It is known, the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) is currently preparing a new list of defense equipment acquisitions in the AFP Modernization Program, Horizon-3, one of which is the procurement of MLRS.
Regarding the specifications, the K239 Chunmoo MLRS targeted by the Philippines weighs around 25 tons. It is 9 m long, 2.5 m wide and 3 m high. To operate it requires a crew of three.
The 8X8 rocket-propelled vehicle, equipped with a 400 hp diesel engine, is capable of traveling at a maximum speed of 80 km/h and an operating range of 800 km.
For weapons, the K239 Chunmoo is equipped with a weapons rack with a choice of 130 mm caliber rockets (20 rockets) then 227 mm and 239 mm.
The newest and largest guided rocket is the KTSSM which has a diameter of 60 cm, can be carried two units in the K239 Chunmoo launcher rack.
