Elegant appearance
CutefishOS' motto is "Focus on simplicity, beauty and practicality". The elegant visual appearance, which is strongly reminiscent of Apple, shows many similarities with the design language of the Deepin and JingOS distributions, which were also developed in China . The Cutefish desktop is developed in C++ and QML, the graphical user interface is implemented with Qt Quick, and KWin serves as the window manager.
The installation with the installer based on the Calamares Framework is done in no time at all, which is not surprising since relatively few packages are installed. The shop also currently offers little selection. However, the entire package pool of Debian is available on the command line via APT.
Debian packages via APT
There is also a package installer that you can drop DEB packages in the file system onto. Linux 5.10 is used as the kernel, which will hopefully be updated for the stable version. Many of the pre-installed applications come from the GNOME pool, which is a little surprising when you use Qt as a basis. Some things seem to have been adjusted here, because almost all apps integrate seamlessly into the Cutefish desktop. There are also apps like the file manager, which turn out to be in-house developments.
CutefishOS works fine so far, I couldn't find any bugs at first glance, everything seems to be working. The distribution will definitely find its users because of its simplicity and elegance, it remains to be seen where CutefishOS will go in the future. The CutefishOS 0.8 Beta 64-bit image is available for testing on the project's downloads page or watch full video to find out where to download.
