I will usually say with this type of release "and the recommended version for new installations", because it is to cover new installations, and not something else, that is what it is aimed at. However, with the next LTS so close, you may prefer to hold on to enjoy all the news that it will surely bring.
On the other hand, Ubuntu is not Debian and each maintenance update also brings with it news of interest, and something more important if possible, with which Ubuntu 22.04 LTS will not be able to compete out of the box: a well matured stability over almost two Ubuntu 20.04 LTS has been running for years.
In addition, Ubuntu 20.04 LTS does not say goodbye with the arrival of its successor, but rather has three more years of support ahead of it, until completing the five available for each LTS version of Ubuntu that is launched on the market. Specifically, Ubuntu 20.04 LTS and subsequent updates will not complete their life cycle until April 2025 .
With regard to the novelties with which Ubuntu 20.04.4 LTS is presented, these include, as usual, all the corrections and patches received since the release of the previous update, as well as a partially renewed base with which the update was released . latest Ubuntu 21.10 , including Linux 5.13 kernel and graphical stack with eg Mesa 21.2 .
However, keep in mind that Canonical has implemented important changes related to the so-called HWE (Hardware Enablement) update , so the most normal thing is that most users, not all, receive these updates.
For the rest, the software included in Ubuntu 20.04.4 LTS at the application level -with the exception of certain applications and with the freedom in this sense provided by package systems such as Snap or Flatpak- and desktops is the same with which Ubuntu 20.04 LTS was originally released .
More information on Ubuntu 20.04.4 LTS in the release notes .
There's not much else to tell. Interested in getting hold of the new Ubuntu 20.04.4 LTS installation images? And who says Ubuntu, you know, says Kubuntu, Xubuntu, etc.
