7In this clip from A Dog’s Purpose we see Maya (Kirby Howell-Baptiste) trying to get Tino (Josh Gad) to chase the ball in the park. Tino protests by laying down and not moving until he sees another dog, in a “love at first sight” moment. He then chases his ball, but takes it to the owner of the other dog instead.

A devoted dog (voiced by Josh Gad) goes on a quest to discover his purpose in life over the course of several reincarnations and the many owners to whom he belonged. Along the way, he ponders such existential questions as "Why does food taste better in the trash?" and "What is the meaning of life?"
Going through several names throughout his time, including Toby, Bailey and Buddy, he arrives at the answers to some of his questions via his interactions with the humans he loves, and the lessons about love that he teaches them.
