Nioh is what you get when you take Dark Souls plus Diablo and Frankenstein them together and finally sprinkling in some advanced combat from Ninja Gaiden. It is one of my favorite games of all time, but is unfortunately not a game I would recommend to everyone. If you expect another Souls-like, you might be put off by the mission-based level design and tightly narrated story, and if you just want looter-slasher-thing, the balls-breaking combat might be a turn-off. However, if you find all these mechanics appealing like me, this game might just be for you. Set in the end of Japan’s feudal era, the Englishman William, travels to the land of anime tits and tentacles and takes on a variety of demons from Japanese folklore. The game offers some of the fastest Souls-like combat ever, and while not set in an open world, the missions are rather sprawling with shortcuts etc known from Souls and Metroidvanias. The game offers some very elaborate opportunities for build variety, and by learning how everything works and grinding for optimal equipment, you can break this game completely apart. The game also offers extensive new game plus cycles, severely upping the difficulty and adding in new mechanics in terms of gearing. The main drawback is the lack of creativity in visual design, where most levels consist mostly of Japanese fisher villages and caves with the color palette changed. However, after sinking more than 400 hours into this title, I hardly notice it anymore. BYE!
