A Forlorn Conclusion - Episode 2: A Walk Through The Ruined City, Part 1 (A VRChat Production)
A Forlorn Conclusion is a film series being uploaded to YouTube, broken up into episodes for your viewing pleasure. Filmed almost entirely on VRChat through the use of improvisational actors from all walks of life, this is an ongoing project following my novel and story ideas with bursts of creative input from the cast. This was really just a passion-project that I embarked upon months ago with the friends I made on VRChat as I took on being a movie-director as another one of my hobbies. Since then, I’ve been pretty immersed in this project, though as this episode will show, it had a very rough and rocky start.
Episode 2 sees Calon taking a walk through the city, in which he bears witness to the dysfunctional nature of life in Mangolin and comes to terms with his predicament. He tries to find some answers as to what happened in the city, why the city is in such a wretched state of affairs, and the shifty populace are not quite in a position to give him a straight answer. He passes by some stalls in the Market District, making idle conversation with various people and then moves on to experience the city in its entirety. Revelations come through unlikely sources, but, all in all, Calon makes it through alright after a stern warning.
The quality of this particular footage is pretty terrible for the simple fact that this was the first official filming for the start of the movie, however, it cannot easily be replicated by an attempt now. The footage itself is almost a time capsule, showcasing some of the things that were happening on VRChat at the time, and a sort of golden age of the project.
Basically, what had happened was, the designated camera man had a bit of an issue with some of the cast members and left after drama ensued. I only have a he-said she-said idea of what happened, but, looked to someone else who did not have a decent set up available at time of filming. And, that’s why we have designated film crew today as opposed to then where a lot of our efforts were ad-hoc. It was a valiant effort on their part, but, the footage itself hasn’t aged well, to say the least. Nevertheless, it’s established canon for the movie. Quality goes back up next episode, promise.
Thanks to everyone that decided to be a part of this project! I greatly appreciate all the time and effort you put into this film, and hope we can keep it going to the end.
