I had to update this patch to get the functionality I wanted, since the old version didn't swap powerups at all. Basically, the item box only activates when you press Select, and instantly grants the powerup instead of dropping it, so long as relevant conditions are met. Getting hit by enemies does not auto-drop the item.

I'm considering combining this with a SMB3 Powerdown for my next project, which I suppose you get a (very minor) sneak peek of here. Stay tuned :b
