The apostle Peter, in 2 Peter 1:12-15, provides us with an excellent example of what it means to be a disciple of Christ. Even though Peter held the office of an apostle, an office that no longer exists, the desire of Peter for the training and discipleship of his audience to outlast him is something that should be in the heart of all believers. The Christian faith is not inherited by blood, it must be taught. Not only that, but it is the responsibility of those within the church to train other Christian's on how to become independent and how to handle scripture properly on their own. Those people in turn train others to do the same. However, we cannot do this if we ourselves are not trained or being trained in the scriptures.
