An action adventure game with stealth elements. In A Plague Tale: Innocence, players find themselves in 14th-century France plagued by the Black Death. Amicia and her five-year-old brother Hugo try to survive and escape the Inquisition, which is following the boy's trail.
A Plague Tale: Innocence is an action adventure game with stealth elements, created by the French team Asobo Studio - previously the team worked on, among others, ReCore. The production was published by Focus Home Interactive.
The action of A Plague Tale: Innocence was set in France in 1348, at a time when the inhabitants of Europe had to face the so-called Black Death - one of the largest epidemics in the history of mankind. Two main characters - teenage Amicia and her five-year-old brother Hugo - live in a world plagued by a plague. The plot focuses on the relationships between the protagonists, forced to flee after their parents were murdered by the Inquisition, which is looking for the boy for unknown reasons. Our characters must find a safe shelter, avoiding not only representatives of the Inquisition, but also packs of hungry rats. Everything is complicated by the fact that Hugo suffers from a mysterious disease...
In A Plague Tale: Innocence, the action is presented from a third-person perspective (TPP). During the game, we mainly control Amicia, who can give her brother - and other characters who join them during the story - limited commands. Children have no chance in a direct fight - however, Amicia can shoot with a slingshot, which can be used to distract the attention of people standing in their way and to manipulate elements of the environment. Over time, the girl learns to produce various types of projectiles, thanks to which she can, for example, light or extinguish torches, direct rats to a specific location or force armored guards to take off their helmets, which allows them to be killed with an accurate headshot. All this is useful when solving environmental puzzles.
One of the main elements of the game is sneaking behind the backs of heavily armed opponents who can easily kill our players. However, the stealth mechanics are unusual - the heroes cannot always hide in the shadows, because the previously mentioned rodents hang out there. The player must stay within the range of light, while trying to deprive the adversaries of portable lanterns and torches, thus exposing them to rats crawling out of the darkness.
A Plague Tale: Innocence boasts high-quality three-dimensional graphics. The creators paid due attention to rats, herds of which behave in a realistic way - they quickly move from one body to another, avoiding light sources. Despite the presence of child protagonists, the game is brutal, and the sight of dismembered corpses and people eaten alive by rats is commonplace here. The extremely atmospheric soundtrack composed by Olivier Deriviere, author of music by, among others, deserves separate mention. for the games Remember Me and Vampyr.
