0A Plague Tale: Requiem is an Oct 2022 action-adventure survival horror stealth game developed by Asobo Studio and published by Focus Entertainment. It is the sequel to A Plague Tale: Innocence (2019), and follows siblings Amicia and Hugo de Rune who must look for a cure to Hugo's blood disease in Southern France while fleeing from enemies and hordes of rats that are spreading the black plague.
Arriving at La Cuna, Amicia and Hugo discover that the residents, led by the Count Victor (Alistair Petrie) and Countess Emilie (Ellie Heydon), worship a pagan deity called the Child of Embers. Arnaud tries to coerce Hugo into summoning rats to attack Victor. Amicia foils Arnaud's plans, resulting in his arrest. Amicia, Hugo, and Sophia explore the island and learn the Count and Countess unknowingly worship a previous Macula carrier as the Child of Embers. Delving further into an ancient Order temple, they find no cure, but uncover clues about the previous carrier, Basilius, and his protector, Aelia.
Looking for new leads, the trio head to a chapel where Aelia was imprisoned after rebelling against the Order. They find it occupied by a cult of slavers who offer human sacrifices to the Child of Embers. Hugo angrily summons rats to kill the slavers, while Amicia finds a message left behind by Aelia telling where Basilius was taken. They discover Basilius was locked in an underground prison by the Order in a futile attempt to contain the Macula. Without Aelia to manage his emotions, Basilius gave in to the Macula and unleashed the Justinian plague. Amicia realizes the Macula showed Hugo the dream in an effort to lure him into its clutches, and they flee the temple as it collapses under a horde of rats. While Sophia readies the ship, Amicia and Hugo return to Victor's castle, now under siege by the rats, and reunite with Beatrice and Lucas. Amicia reasons that as long as they are there to support Hugo and keep his emotions in check, the Macula will remain dormant.
However, Victor attacks Amicia, intent on taking Hugo since Emilie is convinced he is the Child of Embers. Victor reveals that he fabricated most of the story of the Child of Embers in order to preserve Emilie's sanity, who had suffered tremendous abuse from her parents, and which she in turn used the story to give hope to the people of La Cuna. Amicia and Lucas are captured while Emilie kills Beatrice in a ritual sacrifice. Hugo summons a horde of rats that devours Emilie and many of Victor's soldiers. Amicia's group flees to the harbor, rescuing Arnaud on the way before leaving on Sophia's ship. Victor, still intent on claiming Hugo, pursues them. Victor wounds Amicia and captures Hugo while the rest of the group are forced overboard. On shore, Victor confronts Amicia and Arnaud. Arnaud sacrifices himself to allow Amicia to kill Victor, but they are too late to prevent Hugo, who believes Amicia to be dead, from giving himself over to the Macula. A dark cloud blots out the sun and allows the rats to spread unchecked, destroying Marseille. Sophia is injured, and Amicia and Lucas delve into the city, where Hugo's voice tells them that, having now fully merged with the Macula ....
And the rest is one of the most tragic , dramatic , breathtaking and emotional endings in the story of videogames so far .
