9Vagante is an Indie, Action Roguelike Roguevania RPG with Procedural Generation and Pixel Graphics,
A Splunky + Dark Souls Fusion that feels incredible!
Vagante has player classes and attributes like Dark Souls, with the player choosing a class, and lvling up and healing at bonfires, and the intense, 2D trap dodging and using Sidescroller Action of Splunky!
Watch out for the spikes!
But, unlike Splunky, you’re not being chased here, so no being haunted by death in Vagante, by default at least!
The intense Splunky influences continue, as you can jump on monsters heads without taking damage!
A handy, and hilarious, means of bypassing foes!
And yes, you can steal from the shopkeeper! Makes him angry though! Run “Hero”, RUN!
Vagante has you pick your character at the start, choosing from the default Mage, Knight, or Rogue.
All are good, and have their strengths, with different starting gear and skills.
The Knight: starts with more hp, and has a sword; along with the sword, holy, and defense skills
You can learn a down stab with the knight, like in Zelda 2; awesome!
The Mage: has a short ranged lightning cantrip that doesn’t run out, a rod, and a frost nova with 10 charges; with the rod, spellcasting, and alchemy skills.
The Rogue: starts with a dagger and a bow and arrows, along with the Acrobatics, Archery, Dagger, and Shadow skills; Acrobatics has a dodge roll! Dodge: Hold Left or Right + RT. So good!
And don’t think that just because you’re a mage, you can’t wield a sword! Rubbish! You find a nice sword, use that nice sword, you super awesome robe rocking hero you!
In addition to the above, you can always put a lvl up point in one of the 5 attributes: Strength, Dex, Vitality, Intelligence, Luck, in case you just want to hit harder, shoot better, or just have more hp.
Meta Progression is present in the form of new backgrounds, and new unlockable characters, providing different playstyles and different experiences each run.
As you play, you unlock these new backgrounds, like experienced, which starts you at +1 lvl, but gives a -3 to luck, or Survivor; which grants +5 bonfire healing, or Strong, granting Heavy throws, and +2 Str, but -2 Int.
You can find spellbooks too as a mage; while the knight tends to find skills books; like one that teaches the dash ability; which you can use midair to avoid falling damage; powerful!
Other characters like the rogue and wilding can use spellbooks too, though they get less casts then the mage.
Controller support is present, as is both local co-op as well as online co-op multiplayer! Up to 4 players! Awesome!
Anyway, Vagante is an awesome 2D Sidescroller Action RPG Dungeon Crawler, an RPG with tactical depth and intensity, and is easily worth a watch.
