Scholar of the Arcane Arts is an Indie, Action Roguelike / Roguelite RPG Dungeon Crawler all about Magic, created by the Courtesy of Endo.
In Scholar of the Arcane Arts, you are a mage, so the focus is on The Magic!
You don’t Pow-Pow! You Cast and Blast! And Shield! And Grow stuff to help!
You are a Mage, and a Magical Dungeon Delver extraordinaire, and you find new magical scrolls as you explore the Elemental Dungeons born of Procedural Generation, taking them from the corpses of toasted foes, and extracting them from the elemental plane itself! Such is your Power!
You then add their magic to your friendly spellbook, taking its power for yourself!
Gameplay wise, think a less flashy, more deliberate Wizard of Legend, where you Dungeon Crawl through elemental planes of magic, gathering power from defeated foes, and, as you blast and boom your way through the elemental worlds, you can further enhance your mighty magic in town, exchanging power taken from your many defeated foes to enhance and empower your spells.
Think instant fireballs, decreased cooldowns, more damage, fun stuff like that.
The magic system also reminds me a bit of Magicka, where you combine spells as you cast them.
Only in Scholar of the Arcane Arts, you combine the magic After!
So you can cast a thorns spell, and ignite it with fire, dealing more damage to any foe trapped inside, or you can grow the thorns with water, causing them to expand. Cool!
You can fire forth a sphere of water, and make it even bigger with more water, drowning and crushing your foes.
Anyway, if you like Pixel Graphics and Procedural Generation packaged in a magic focused ARPG, where you learn and improve new spells as you Dungeon Delve through elemental planes of magic, searching for more spells and more elemental power, all in a bid to defeat the evil demigods trying to take over your world, then you’ll likely love this.
