In the past few weeks, I’ve been deeply involved in a fascinating #project: creating a #3Dprinted #violin. My journey started with an in-depth study of my cherry-colored wooden violin. Transitioning from design to printing, I had to print the violin in multiple pieces due to its size, which I then carefully welded or glued together. For this project, I used #PLA filament and #SilkPLA for some parts to achieve the desired aesthetics and structural integrity.
I've learned a lot about #3Dprinting techniques, especially the importance of precision in design and assembly. Currently, I'm testing it with only one string, as each string exerts a tension of several kilograms (about 6-12kg per string and are 4 ). I want to avoid the violin collapsing under the strain. Additionally, since PLA starts to lose its strength at around 50°C, I'm uncertain if it would hold up if played outdoors or on a very hot day.
I'm also tuning it using a specific app and will soon be comparing it to my real cherry-colored wooden violin in test & measurement activities supported by DEWESoft. Stay tuned for the results!
