The founder of the Telegram messenger Pavel Durov was detained at Le Bourget airport in Paris, French TV channels TF1 and BFMTV reported, citing sources. The 39-year-old businessman was detained when his private jet arrived in the French capital from Azerbaijan. Durov was accompanied by a security guard and a woman, whose name the journalists did not disclose.
Durov was detained by the Air Transport Gendarmerie on the grounds that the businessman was included in the list of wanted persons in France. The arrest warrant was issued by the French judicial police on the basis of a "preliminary investigation", the details of which are not disclosed.
According to TF1, Durov may be charged in France with terrorism, drugs, fraud, money laundering, selling stolen goods and sexualized crimes against children. All this is due to the lack of moderation in Telegram, as well as the refusal of the messenger administration to cooperate with the authorities and the use of various Telegram tools, such as cryptocurrency and a one-time number. French law enforcement agencies consider Durov an accomplice in crimes committed using Telegram, due to the refusal to moderate content, notes the BFMTV source.
