Spinmaster (Miracle Adventure in Japan) was a side-scrolling, run-and-gun, beat 'em up, game developed by Data East and for the NEOGEO MVS hardware. This was notable to me back when it was first released because I recognized the two main characters from a Sega Genesis game called Dashin' Desperadoes, also made by Data East. In that game, they were named Will and Rick, and they had the exact same character design. But get this - you'd think they were the same guys, but they're not, because Spin Master and Dashin' Desperadoes have no actual relation to each other. I don't think the similarities were ever explained, but I'm just going to go out on a limb and think it was just a matter of character design reuse.
So anyway, in Spin Master, our heroes Johnny and Tom are are big dreamers. They hope to find an ancient treasure that was hidden by a mysterious man somewhere on an uncharted island. A piece of a weathered and withered treasure map found its way into Johnny's possession and guess what? He wants to set out to find the rest of the pieces, but his girlfriend Mary whom he lived with, is kidnapped by a mad scientist named Dr. De Playne (Tattoo and Treasure Island reference anyone?), who is also seeking the treasure!
So you know what that means! Johnny and Tom set out to rescue Mary, and hopefully retrieve the rest of the map pieces so they finally find that treasure! Armed with their trusty yo-yo and bombs, can they defeat Dr. De Playne and his army of hooded minions, birds, and snakes?
