Whoa there Clown, didn’t know you swung that way…

With its intact aircraft carriers, Osea launches a two-pronged offensive against Erusea to divide its forces. An endeavour that quickly takes a turn for the worse when the Arsenal Birds are deployed to counter the offensive, along with the arrival of an unexpected guest.

And here we are. The mission first shown all the way back at E3 2017 which gave us our first real glimpse of this game since it was first announced a year prior. And between the E3 Demo and the game’s final build there are a lot of noticeable changes.

For instance in the E3 Demo:
*Radar blacks out while flying through clouds - enemies can also hide in the clouds.
*Enemies on radar use the AC5 design - marking critical targets with an outer circle, and displaying their health by their colour.
*Different gun reticle design - displays effective range more clearly.
*Subtitles share the same font as rest of the HUD.
*Golem Squadron has it’s own unique radio filter.
*Music in the second phase of the mission is slightly altered.
*UAVs and Arsenal Bird have different engine sounds.
*Arsenal Bird has no APS shield - instead wipes out Skeleton Squadron with endless missile volleys.
*Character portraits had a different design and only showed in the beginning of the mission - this also extends to some of the characters. As Brownie for instance has longer hair in the E3 build.

But the biggest change of all is of course the dialogue, and this isn’t just exclusive to Mission 3, it’s prevalent throughout the whole game. And this has meant a lot of story details that will be seen later got lost or ended being an omitted entirely. Which is a shame since a lot of that dialogue is interesting to listen to and would help to explain key plot points.
But as series director Kazutoki Kono has stated, “There is no truth in the discarded data.” likely meaning that any such dialogue is not canon. Thus leaving the story as it is in a bit of a jumbled mess.
This is something the ‘Skies Restored’ mod by Calamitous has aimed to rectify as much as possible.
