4What if Gryphus One had taken a different approach in his fight to liberate Aurelia? Let's turn back to right after the capture of Port Patterson and pick a different route starting with an attack on the Gleipnir!
As the mission starts, you'll get a taste of the airborne fortress' power as it destroys an allied fleet in front of your eyes, and it'll keep doing that until you damage it enough to break its optical camouflage! Thankfully it takes a while for all of your allies to get destroyed and your rank doesn't depend on how many survive. So if you're so inclined, take the time to shoot down six aircraft before attacking the Gleipnir to spawn an Ace later.
Once the Gleipnir takes sufficient damage its camouflage will be broken and it'll start to retreat by climbing to higher altitudes while regularly firing SWBMs, a Star Container Ship will also spawn and if you've destroyed six aircraft in the first phase, the F-5E Ace "Ghost" will spawn to the Northeast and try to flee in that direction, so you'll have to go fast to catch up!
Once you're good to go, you can bring your attention back to the Gleipnir, destroy the four AA Guns emplacements and SWBM ports, and four more SWBM ports will pop up, destroy them and the mission is over, and if you've accumulated 8,000 points or more, you get an S Rank too!
But going after the Gleipnir so soon brought some consequences...
