In today's video, I am going to spend some time answering the question, “what ACL exercises to avoid?”.

First, we need to get into the whole idea of ‘good vs bad exercises’.

There are so many people on social media listing recommendations on what exercises you should or shouldn't do, and which ones are bad or good. The reason you shouldn't listen to them is that they don't take into account what your training goals are.

No exercise is inherently good or bad. An exercise is good if the movement pattern and the challenge level are appropriate to drive adaptations in your body to help you achieve your goals.

So, when we ask what ACL exercises to avoid, in the context of ACL rehab… it all depends on where you are in your ACL rehab and how much time has passed since your surgery. If you're 10 months out of surgery and recovering well, then there aren't really any ACL exercises you need to avoid.

However, if you're 1 week out from your surgery, you should not be doing full-range, heavy knee extensions, that is too much load on your newly repaired ACL.

Follow the tips within the video to learn the ACL exercises to avoid in certain phases of your rehab and the alternative exercises to do in their place to help you get back to full strength without risking further injury to your ACL.
