ADG Episode 138 - Macadam Bumper / Pinball Wizard
Originally Released: May 10th, 2014
------------------------------------------
I've had this game since childhood and I loved it back then because it essentially allowed me to make my own "pinball" tables. I put "pinball" in quotes because the physics in this program are beyond terrible as far as real pinball is concerned, but it's to the point where it almost becomes its own thing, so as long as you approach this program as a fun ball-based design system and not as a pinball-emulating program, there's a lot of fun to be had. :)

Additional Information and Corrections:
* Here's a link to a good website to download Visual Pinball program files and tables from, though it requires you to be registered and non-paying members are limited to five downloads per 24-hour period. Also, Visual Pinball can be a bit tricky to get working properly so it's best to follow the tutorials on how to do so: http://www.vpforums.org
* If you're hunting down physical copies of this game there's a couple things I became aware of after posting this video. The first is that the major difference between the Macadam Bumper and Pinball Wizard releases for DOS is that the Pinball Wizard release was for North American markets, whereas Macadam Bumper was for the European market. Also be aware that there's ANOTHER game called Pinball Wizard from 1983/1984 by a company called Sagittarian Software, published through CP Software. However, this game only came on cassette whereas none of the releases of Macadam Bumper on cassette use the Pinball Wizard name, so if you see the name Pinball Wizard on a cassette-based game, it's NOT Macadam Bumper!
* Considering they included "specials" in this game, I'm surprised they also didn't include "matches". At the end of a game on most pinball machines, the last two digits of everyone's score is compared to a randomly chosen multiple of 10 from 00 to 90, and if that randomly chosen value matches a free game is earned.
* If anyone's interested in the two tables I made while making this episode, just let me know and I'll upload 'em. The one with the flipper opening up into the shooter lane was somewhat inspired by the recent Star Trek table based on the new Star Trek movies, as it has this same feature. :B
* BTW: Anyone interested in significantly better pinball software should check out Pinball FX2 and Pinball Arcade, both of which are on Steam. Pinball FX2 is all about original table designs while Pinball Arcade is about digitizing real tables!
