Geeze, this filler video really feels so out of date since owning a proper full-size pin... :D

But yeah, after the Epic Pinball review I discovered there was a pinball league here in the city I live in, and a couple months following I had become a member and was getting to play lots of real pinball again thanks to the monthly league nights which were held at local collector's homes.

So, just to try and get it all out of my system, and give people an idea of how to get back into pinball themselves, I made this lengthy video to cover every topic I had any insights into.

Since making this video, I had acquired a real commercial-grade pinball machine and have rapidly moved up the ranks in our league. Still a long ways away from being able to compete against world-class players, but with every league night which comes and goes I keep getting matched up with stronger and stronger players, so that's always a good sign! :)

I've since sold said pinball machine in 2018 though. Gonna wait for living conditions to improve before I invest in another one. :B

* The table being played on my computer in the background of the live-action segments is "Terminator 2: Judgement Day" from within Pinball Arcade, which is actually one of the very few pins I remember from my childhood. :B

* I think it goes without saying that the real software runs at 60 frames per second and looks far smoother than an internet video like this can get across. Blip never properly supported 60 FPS, thus why I formatted this video for 30 FPS. :P

* One thing I didn't elaborate on in my comparisons were the camera angles you could see the tables from. The angles present in Pinball FX 2 are the worst though still acceptable really. Future Pinball is not much better than Pinball FX 2. Pinball Arcade varies depending on the table, with most tables having OK camera angles and some having very decent camera angles. Visual Pinball is completely customizable, but you can't change the angle on-the-fly because it has to pre-render everything.

* There's actually plenty of other pinball programs out there, but many of them only have a single table or just a very small selection which is why I didn't focus on them. IMHO, you get more for your money going with the compilation programs like Pinball Arcade and Pinball FX 2, plus in the case of Pinball Arcade you're playing tables that really exist.

* I'm aware that toy pinball machines aren't an ideal substitute for real commercial-grade pinball machines, but they're still fun little things all the same. :)

* Part of the reason why I didn't elaborate too much on buying a real pinball machine is because I could probably create a whole series on the subject. If you have any desire at all to own a real pin, do your research first! I cannot stress this enough!

* "Dead Pass" and "Dead Bounce" are essentially the same thing. Don't know if one's more proper to say than the other, so I used 'em both as the video went on. :B

* Another pro trick I forgot to mention is called the "Alley Pass", where you let the ball roll down the flipper and flip at the last possible instant to send the ball mostly horizontal and up the inlane the wrong way on the other side of the table. This is an extremely risky thing to do since if you flip too early the ball will fling into a slingshot and end up out of control, while if you flip too late, the ball will have already rolled off of the flipper and thus will just fall unceremoniously into the drain in an extremely humiliating fashion. :P
