The latest Adventure Time game takes the franchise into brand-new territory; the realm of, well, adventure games.

Adventure Time: Finn and Jake Investigations is the fourth video game adaption of the popular cartoon. Previous installments focused on exploration and dungeon crawling, taking inspiration from Zelda II and Diablo to varying degrees of success. This time around, though, it looks like developer Vicious Cycle Software are invoking the push-this, pull-that style gameplay made famous by series like Monkey Island and Leisure Suit Larry.

Another cartoon tie-in game might not sound like news, but consider some of Telltale’s excellent adventure game adaptions of other famous animated characters. Both Sam and Max and Strong Bad’s Cool Game for Attractive People stayed faithful to the source material while producing a fun and engaging experience. That’s because adventure games place an emphasis on strong, clever dialogue, allowing the players to really get to know the main characters through the course of the game.

Adventure Time: Finn and Jake Investigations will be released for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Wii U, Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, Nintendo 3DS and PC platforms.
