The Afghan National Army has been bolstered by an extra 14,000 new recruits at a passing out ceremony in Afghanistan that has also seen the very first British-trained NCOs join the ranks. They went on parade at Helmand province's Regional Military Training Centre and will eventually replace British soldiers. Bolstering the numbers of Afghan troops is ISAF's answer to Helmand's dogged insurgency. It needs an army that can stand on its own feet and the appointment of the first British-trained team leaders -- 128 Afghan equivalents of Lance Corporals - is a start.
