A huge operation to broaden Afghan security control is underway in a contested area of Helmand province.

The ANA and ANP-led operation has been taking place in the Nahr-e Saraj district. It has involved 1200 Afghan troops in a surge to expand the safe area for the local population and drive back the insurgents.

200 British personnel from 12 Mechanized Brigade, including The Kings Royal Hussars, 3 RIFLES, 1 Royal Anglian, 1st Battalion Grenadier Guards, 1st Battaltion Welsh Guards and 3 YORKS, have been supporting the operation but the focus is very much on the Afghan forces taking the lead.

Forces News has been given an exclusive interview with the Commanding Officer of 3rd Battalion The Yorkshire Regiment about that mentoring process.
