▶ From when to when does the Open Beta take place?
The Open Beta for Age of Empires 4 starts this Friday and ends on the following Monday. The exact dates and times are as follows:
- Beta start: Friday, September 17, 2021 at 7 p.m. German time
- Beta end: Monday, September 20, 2021 at 7 p.m. German time
▶ How do I take part?
The new technical stress test for the strategy game is accessible to every PC player. You do not need a separate invitation or the like. To participate in the Age of Empires 4 Open Beta, you have the following two options.
- via Steam: Go to the Age of Empires 4 Steam page. You can access the beta under the purchase options by clicking on "Request access" under "Participate in the Age of Empires IV Technical Stress Test game test".
- via Xbox Insider Hub: You can find the "Preview" tab in the corresponding app on the PC and use it to request access to the open beta. The Xbox Insider app can be downloaded from the Microsoft Store.
Registration already available: You can register for the Open Beta of Age of Empires 4 now before it starts on Friday evening.

If you want to take part in the Open Beta of Age of Empires 4, your PC must of course meet the minimum requirements of the strategy game. They are quite moderate, so hopefully you shouldn't have any problems:

- CPU: Intel Core i5-6300U or AMD Ryzen 5 2400G
- GPU: Intel HD 520 or AMD Radeon RX Vega 11

▶ Age of Empires 4: Every Civilization Available At Launch
Abbasid Dynasty: The Abbasid Dynasty is the first civilization that shows the modernization of Age of Empires' series formula. In Age of Empires 4, it's a highly adaptive civilization that uses the House of Wisdom to research a wide array of upgrades.
Chinese: The Chinese are an often-used civilization in RTS games, and for good reason. China had one of the greatest empires ever seen in history, one of the most important bonuses the Chinese have are extra villagers at the start of a match.
Delhi Sultunate: A unique unit called The Scholar can speed up research at nearby buildings. The Sultanate specializes in defense in Age of Empires 4, but late-game they can produce a massive army headed by deadly War Elephants.
English: The biggest specialization for the English comes with castles, keeps, and towers as all of these buildings trigger an alarm when enemies near. This bumps up the attack speed of all buildings, bolstering defense even more.
French: Cavalry gets bonus damage with the French, and one of the special units is a heavily armored mounted unit called The Royal Knight.
Mongols: The Mongols' biggest asset in Age of Empires 4 is that they can literally pick up and move their entire civilization, inspired by the nomadic lifestyle of the civilization from 1000-1500 CE.
Holy Roman Empire: Microsoft hasn't detailed anything about the last two Age of Empires 4 civilizations yet, but they have been confirmed as the Holy Roman Empire and the Rus.
Rus: Like the Holy Roman Empire, Microsoft won't be showing more of Age of Empires 4's Rus civilization until closer to launch.
