An air traffic controller's joke caused a Delta flight to circle Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport for about an hour and a half on June 11.
"According to the FAA, the pilot of Delta Flight 630 was just over 1,000 feet off the ground and preparing to land a Boeing 777 from Detroit on Wednesday when an air traffic controller told them not to land and instead circle the airport," reports Atlanta's 11 Alive. "Seconds later, the air traffic controller said, 'I'm kidding, Delta 630. After you land, I've got no one behind you. Expect to exit right.'"
The traffic controller reportedly told the pilot to "disregard his earlier instructions as a joke," however, the pilot had already changed course to avoid the landing, further reports 11 Alive.
The Federal Aviation Administration is continuing its investigation of the incident at this time.
