Akai Katana (赤い刀) - 1CC Longplay
Ok, this is a middleground run (score wise), on Akai Katana, with a nice 1CC and 2 lives left at the end.
A couple of times i moved to the edge of the camera, I apologize, but the focus shouldn't be my pretty face, rather the exquisite technical level design of this game.
Akai Katana, just like Ikaruga, is a scoring danmaku. The mechanics revolve around bouncing bullets while in "giant" mode, and destroying them for point items with che focused laser. In order to enter "giant" mode, you have to collect green energy as a plane.
The level design alternates small enemies (that pops bullets in "giant" mode or drops easy green energy in plane mode) and big enemies, with middle bosses and nice bossfights.
This game has been made by Cave. It's part of their hori collection, along with Progear, Deathsmiles and so on. Honestly, they are great both in yoko and in tate: Cave stuff is always a hit in my book. Music is awesome, and the graphic is insane. Remember to turn off aliasing and vsync in modern systems as the port is somewhat sloppy (as arcade ports often are, sadly), and these features are implemented in a way that risk to introduce input lag on your side.
If you don't have an arcade at home, the best way to play this game is on Steam/Switch/PS5. The full commercial name is Akai Katana Shin, and features 3 game modes: original arcade (the one you see here) revamped and the 360 rerelease.
All in all it's a 10 in my book. Think of this game as Cave's Ikaruga of sorts.
Played on Steam with a Mayflash Arcade Fightstick F101.
