Akenzuo the Dream Diver
In this video you will see Akenzuo the Dream Diver and his spirit friends in their surreal adventure. Akenzuo is a character I made many years ago. He was created in order to establish an African cartoon style AKA African anime art style. There are of course differences between anime and cartoons but considering one of my inspirations was The Legend of Zelda The Wind Waker, I think the term anime and cartoon become kinda interchangeable when that game's art is concerned since the Link of that Zelda is referred to as Toon Link and not Anime Link despite it being a style coming from Japan. As for the African influence, the Nigerian Benin bronzes heavily guided how I formed the art style.
Of course the focus is not on the style for this video, that was the topic of the last Akenzuo video. This one focus on Akenzuo's lore. And all the various African art imagery that influenced this particular illustration.
African cultures discussed include: Egypt AKA Kemet, Kuba, Asante, Benin, and Songye
I hope you'll enjoy this look back into my artistic past.
