Alan Wake 2 - It's not a Game it's a Masterpiece (Spoiler Free) Game of the Year Dark Horse
The Long awaited and highly anticipated Alan wake 2 is here, and it is not what a lot of people expected, but Is this a game for you?
Alan Wake 2 where do I start, its not perfect, but it is impossible for me to consider it anything other than a modern masterpiece. It is a true work of art, with truly innovative and impressive design, an original and well written story, its a game that actually redefines what a video game can be.
It's only weak spot is in some of the gameplay, So come along with me as we look at Alan Wake 2 , a Dark and Strange world , Where the lines of Reality and Fiction are blurred.
Both Alan and Saga have flashes of each other while exploring the world, they seem more like echos though , where you're not sure if its actually them, or if its fiction bleeding into reality, it may even be an alternate reality, or different time period that these messages come in. By the end you will know how they are connected. By the End you will also know who Mr Scratch really is.
The Game is played through Dual protagonists, In The early parts of the game the player takes control of an FBI Detective name Saga, who gets caught up in a strange series of events in Bright Falls Washington. she has an amazing, almost psychic ability to piece together crimes. you the player do this by collecting evidence and Entering what she calls The Mind Place. This is basically a Room in her own mind where she can focus and see things more clearly. You can freely travel to and from this mind place at almost anytime, where you can review cases, put together evidence, Profile Suspects , and put together leads by taking information from the real world into the mindplace, and this is how saga moves her part of the story forward. The Mind Place is also used to review lore, check your progress on collectables, upgrade weapons, and even watch TV and listen to music.
This game not only breaks down the 4th wall, it blows the roof off the building, and collapses the floor. Leaving you exposed to what I can only describe as not a video game, but an interactive immersion into a multimedia art experience Where Faction becomes Reality and Reality becomes fiction resided in fiction that is creating reality.
Remedy has always pushed the edge of gaming , with their outside the box and original approach to game creations, but this is on an entirely different level. There is simply nothing like this, I have nothing to compare it too, not even Alan Wake 1 or Control are in the same realm.
Alan Wake 2 is categorized as a survival horror game , but its so much more, and I really don't think the term Survival or horror really apply to it. The only aspect of Survival is resource conservation, and knowing when to fight and when to run. it's also not a traditional horror game. In a way it doesn't even feel like a game at all, With perfect transitions from gameplay to cinematics, to live video, into reality shifts, flash backs, and time loops which are somehow all seamlessly stitched together.
The game has some of the best over all sound in any game, the songs I have ever heard in a game the songs themselves actually tell part of the story, the ambient music and sound effects are amazing, and really add to the level of suspense and immersion, I am not sure how to managed to create some of the sound effects, but they are so real, that I swear I was hearing noises coming from rooms in my house. In 1 place in particular the game itself turns into Rock Musical, and this is not just a cinematic, its actually a level with full combat and its Mind Blowing how they did this.
Saga traverses from 1 reality to another through places in the game that act as doorways, which are called overlaps, these overlaps only open after she has done enough detective work. Inside the overlaps isa place where the past the present and reality and fiction all blur together, its completely eerie, and scary, and this is where you will experience some challenging, creative, unique, and truly scary boss fights.
