How do you follow up a system defining game like Alex Kidd in Miracle World? apparently with a horrific digitized scream and a run of the mill platform game.

Gone are the vehicles, multiple collectible weapons, the multi-directional scrolling and the Janken matches (well that might be a good thing). Instead The Lost Stars is a very traditional left to right platformer where you spend more time listening to Alex scream that anything else. On it's own it's not a bad game, but it's a quite a let down after Miracle World.
