Players who purchase the Standard Edition of Gran Turismo 7 on PS4 will be able to upgrade to the PS5 digital version for an additional cost. Players who purchase the PS4 version on disc will need a PS5 console with a disc drive to upgrade to the PS5 digital version. PS4 game discs can’t be used with the PlayStation®5 Digital Edition.

The pricing of items were labelled by some as being too expensive, noting certain cars could cost as much as US$200. The game the always-online requirement meant players were limited to the game's offline modes.
In the United Kingdom, Gran Turismo 7 was the best-selling game in its first week of release, and remained number one the following week. In Germany, more than 200,000 copies of the game had been sold by the end of March 2022.
