this game got the usual hate about half-baked release, but it's currently 50% off on Quest store and just got an update with some dynamic lights added for extra atmosphere. and very atmospheric and true to the franchise it is, complete with fine 80s tech and gear the franchise is known for.

from videos I already knew graphics were fine enough for Quest and doubly so live in VR, fine smooth lighting and shiny surfaces with some great materials. This was a surprise too in Metro Awakening.

my main concern was whether Survios had evolved past their simp wave shooter experiences and luckily this is a definite yes. Encounters feel unpredictable and dynamic, tension from reloading and changing gear fully heightening it. their choices for aim and fast reloading of bullets are very well thought out. Exploration is tense and engaging.

still missing some minor polish but already pretty great in my book. 2024 was really big for VR gaming and working through my backlog has never been slower with the pace of releases on a niche "with no games"
