41 credit clear of Alien Storm (Arcade), played on December the 6th 2023. using ShmupMame.
Played on Normal difficulty / default dipswitches (shown at the end), World 3 Player version.
No save states, no cheats. Turbofire was used ONLY in Gallery Shooter sections (generally not a problem to do them without it because you don't need to mash as fast as in the Run 'n Gun sections, however - when you play on pad and when you need a few attempts in a row to actually finish the game - you kinda stop feeling your hands if you're not using autofire. Even Janet used turbofire with both the emulator and an actual PCB, so I'm fine with it. But enough with the excuses, I might do it without autofire in the future - I first need to get more consistent with beating the game.

Insanely tough game. The main problem is that you only have 1 life and no health refills at all. The beat 'em up sections are challenging but awesome and I really like what they did with combat innovations compared to Golden Axe (this is basically a Golden Axe game on steroids). There's even more attack variations depending on your proximity to the enemy and you can use that to your advantage to score some quick kills. A lot of players are confused on how to land the powerful running jump attack (the dive), I think that this playthrough solves that mystery. Really satisfying to land those with Karla.
The Gallery Shooter stages are incredibly difficult to survive without taking hits and are a big problem when attempting to clear the game on one coin (in 2 player mode they become a breeze, weird). A lot of the patterns don't seem logical at first so they're not easy to memorize either.
Run 'n Gun sections are by far the easiest, although in this version (World, 3 Players) - if you want to play as Karla, you have to play as Player 3. Player 3 has to take a mandatory hit in the final Run 'n Gun level (that first log is unavoidable due to Player 3's starting position). I really wanted to play this version because Karla in red makes more sense (resembles both her day job uniform and Tyris Flare). In the 2 Player version you actually have a character select screen, but Karla is in yellow.
Best ending ever in all arcade games.
