1 credit clear of Warrior Blade: Rastan Saga Episode III (Arcade), played on December 14th 2023. using Fightcade/FBNeo.

Played on Normal difficulty / default dipswitches.
No save states, no cheats, no turbofire, no macros used.
Different dipswitches can make this game a bit more fun to play, but I decided to go for the defaults and get a valid clear.

I wanted to use Rastan to get as much of that Golden Axe feel as possible. Played the short route (no Bad Fortune / extra coins) and activated the secret extra ending text. Had to time out the final boss.

1CC challenge difficulty: 5/10
Score: 233220, stage order: Palace--Castle--Ship--Tower

-------------------------------

This game is unique in a couple of ways:
1. It plays as a 2x screen game with a bigger playfield similar to what we have nowadays in more modern 2D beat em'ups. The graphics are very good for a 1991 game.
2. Most enemies talk in German. Despite never getting an official release outside of Japan the game has full English support
3. It has this Bad Fortune mechanic that punishes bad play (using multiple coins throughout the main 4 stages) by forcing you to play additional stages, but then rewarding you with more buffs. There is a dipswitch that takes you through ALL stages regardless of number of coins used.
4. It has three mandatory gimmick stages, two of wich can be considered as this game's answer to Golden Axe's mounts (horseback and dragon riding). Mounts' colors vary depending on the character choice.
5. It has a secret ending extra text activated with a 2x 360 motion at a certain moment during the regular ending. If you enter your name as one of the rival companies (Sega, Capcom, Nintendo and some others) you get weird results on the leaderboard.
6. There is a Wizard traveling companion that can randomly be found in stages and can cast powerful magic spells if you hit him. You can't take him into boss fights and he doesn't have a walking-down-the-stairs animation so he just teleports.
7. Characters change their stance when facing a boss. Some of the moves become slightly different in the boss-stance.
8. You can vastly change the experience by tweaking the dipswitch settings. I've never seen dipswitches potentially altering an arcade game this much. Some of it is pretty cool and a nice option to have, but some of it is due to bad design and the devs not being able to figure out hor to properly balance the game so they give you the option to do that instead of them.
