I've known about Alien Swarm for years now and have tested it in the past, but there were some issues with dedicated server. Then I recently stumbled upon Reactive Drop and there have been some amazing improvements:
- Host your own game, no Dedicated server
- 8 player co-op
- Offline Multi-player
- New campaigns

I was able to play offline co-op with my family and didn't have a single issue.
