[Alien Vendetta] MAP19: Alien Resurrection (UV-Max Demo)
we get a one-map reprieve from the beefy monster counts, but this one can still get pretty tricky. there are also a couple kind of jank parts but overall it's a good time. and we have a smooth new deadwing midi to go with it. the openings pretty merciless as you're stuck in a cage with a couple revenants wandering around plus a chaingunner and have to dive for the shotgun. but right after there's a couple kind of flagrant uses of invisible monster-blocking lines - not a huge deal necessarily, but you'd expect that hell knight to wander out and instead it just blocks the door. the downstairs area can get a little overwhelming if you let the archvile that spawns get a lot of revives off, and it takes a while until you can deal with the situation. so i piled up the monsters on the opposite wall and it worked beautifully except for the part where it took five rockets to kill. heading through the red door, watch out for the ol' cacodemon behind a fake wall trick. clearing out this u-shaped hallway can be tough as stuff spawns in unexpected locations and places. be VERY sure that you don't crush any monsters - in one run i had three ghost monsters and didn't have the rockets to deal with it. i also really like the library area - reminds me of the sewers from plutonia. why is there a library in the sewers? great question. then the finale which is definitely a little janky. there's a switch that half-lowers a wall, and honestly it's just best to let stuff infight. it's hard to tell but rockets and archvile blasts can hit you over it. but once the corridor of monsters has worked out their frustrations on each other, let yourself out, clean up any stragglers and then you're more or less done.
the av demos are running a little behind and the next one's definitely a doozy. and there a few later on that are going to be really tough. we'll see how it goes.
