from wikipedia: "Exquisite corpse [...] is a method by which a collection of words or images is collectively assembled. Each collaborator adds to a composition in sequence [...] by being allowed to see only the end of what the previous person contributed." and that's exactly what we have here, in doom form. you might call this the start of the 1024x1024 phenomenon, as each of the 12 mappers had that much space to work with and only a little bit of the previous mapper's work to go on. these are largely the same people who would go on to produce congestion 1024, so clearly they felt they were on to something.

as for the map itself, it goes way harder than i thought it would. not only is there that classic 1024 action, there's a wide variety of it, as each map brings its own flavor of challenge, from wide-open shooting galleries to crate mazes to more puzzle-heavy endeavors. everything that section of the map needs is contained in 1024x1024 - including any teleporter closets in a few cases which is pretty tough. there's also one case where you can only get reach different sections of a room by passing through a second one. overall the progression is surprisingly elaborate for something assembled in this patchwork way. but there are some definite cracks in the seams. in particular i managed to find two separate softlocks, which i do plan on documenting on doomwiki. one i'm not even really totally sure how it works. but it made producing a single-segment demo difficult. that cyberdemon at the end is awfully rude too. i managed to not completely screw it up but it's pretty uncomfortable.

oh and usually this would use D_RUNNIN; i've whipped up a handy little wad generator to produce replacements. this is jimmy paddock's 2012. i picked it because it was first on the list but i liked the way it went with the level, so that was that.
