. The Golden Axe series of games has been popular with us 30-somethings pretty much since the first one was released in the late 80s. Most people know it best from the Sega Mega Drive, or Genesis if you’re a sexy American or Canadian thick boy or Keaton, but it was originally an arcade game.

Buff fantasy characters packed with muscles, beards and cleavage riding dragons was enough to lure in just about anyone back in the day, and thankfully, the games were half decent too.

As with anything mildly popular, it spawned a proper franchise and got a ton of ports to a bunch of systems, so here, we are going to take a look at most of them. But not all of them. I don’t have all of them.
