Altered Beast - Sega Mega Drive - Attract & intro with arcade playthrough real hardware [1080p60]
Full gameplay longplay / playthrough / walkthrough / trueplay of the Mega Drive port of the Sega Arcade game Altered Beast. So having a look around YouTube the other day Randomised Gaming couldn't find one unemulated video of Sega's iconic game. Popular in the arcades and on the Mega Drive in the 80s, these days Altered Beast is seen as a pretty awful game, that just looked good at the time and employed some great ideas. The man to beast transformation scene is something anyone who ever played the arcade version will always remember.
The Mega Drive version is a rebalanced but heavily cut down release of the system 16 arcade board. A very early Mega Drive title that was built at a time when even Sega's own teams were learning how to create games for the hardware. As a result most of the effects like scaling sprites where removed from this port and the number of enemies on screen is also cut down. Giving you a game weaker and far worse than the arcade game, Altered Beast is an unforgiving title that requires players learn the movement and pattern of the enemies in order to progress. Added to that it just isn't that fun and is one game best left to memory. With only five stages the game can be finished in around ten minutes so not a huge amount of lastability.
It does however loop and increase the difficulty each time you finish the game. Making it's best selling point the fact that you can try and set huge high scores. While graphically impressive in 1988, Altered Beast really never was that good a game and would be another candidate for a Mega Drive gaming nightmare video.
