Ring of Red is one of those games that I always think about. Take rather deep turn-based grid strategy gameplay, add resource management and RPG elements, shake with action sequences that have a lot of almost rhythm elements, and top with a great alternate history that doesn't infantilize the player!

I'll be playing this one irregularly for now because I've already got three running projects during the week and this game can be a big time investment--three hours or more per mission, later in the game.
Running on genuine PS2 hardware, one downside is that this game loves to change video modes, so there's a lot of my capture card trying to keep up. But all the good stuff is there.
