This incredible footage shows the late Queen Elizabeth II speaking to British personnel based in Paderborn, Germany, in 1985.

Her Majesty reassured the military audience in the Forces News archive footage, saying: "Life for soldiers' families is never easy, with constant moves and considerable separation.

"But their support and understanding are a great comfort, and their contribution to the life of the regiment is well recognised and much appreciated."
