This game has been developed by a very small team, lead by Susan and Frank Wimmer. "The Wimmers", as they call themselves in the credits, spent their honeymoon in a Bed & Breakfast in a supposedly haunted mansion. There they had the idea for a game that would later become "Amber." They founded Hue Forest Entertainment specifically for this project.
This Myst-like adventure game relies heavily on atmosphere and characters to create its eerie, mysterious feel. Players who love tales full of sadness and sorrow, or can just dive into a game with gripping stories and characters, are sure to have a great time with this title, although it has often been criticised for being too short.
The player takes the role of a close friend of a paranormal scientist, and is sent to check up on her at her mansion deep in the mountains of North Carolina. Experience the game's premise in its own words by watching the introduction sequence here.
