Ref Video: AMD ATI Radeon HD 4870 Heatsink Assembly How to Take it Apart
This video card has been noted for having heating issues. To maintain this video card, you should clean the dust out of the heatsink assembly once every year. Dust tends to collect on the heatsink fins which can obstruct the flow of air thus making the video card hotter. This can increase wear and tear on your video card.

It is a good idea to take your video card apart to give it a deep cleaning. Kind of like how you take car to the dealership or mechanic for oil change every 6 months or once a year. It isn't hard to do.

Tools
1. #1 x 3" Phillips head screw driver
2. #00 Phlillips head screw driver

Disassembly

1. Remove the heatsink assembly with the Phillips #00 screw driver.
2. Remove the 10 screws that are holding the board to the heatsink assembly with the #1 Phillips screw driver.
3. Remove the heatsink assembly from the graphics board. Don't pull it away too far, because the power connector is attached to the the board.

5. Pull the lid apart after all the screws are moved.

2 .Align the heatsink fan and screw the 3 screws it into the heatsink assembly.
3. Put in the 5 other small screws into the heatsink assembly.
4. Align the heatsink assembly to the video card board.
5. Put in all 8 screws with the Phillips #1 screw driver.
6. Put the heatsink to board assembly back on by screwing in all the small screws with the #00 Phillips head screw driver.
