AMD are busy little bees, as not only are they working on the successor the the Zen CPU processor, they are also developing an alternative to Nvidia's Gameworks.

This alternative, called GPUOpen, will be open source. With any luck, it will not have such huge performance hits as Nvidia's Gameworks and Hairworks currently does on PC games.
