This is the final play of the game...but leading up to it was an exciting spirited contest full of controversy, league officials consulting with teenage umpires, and a back and forth battle for victory.
The green team started out by going up 2-0, but very soon it was tied, and then we fell behind 4-2, but we managed to hit a very rare homerun with a man on base to bring it back to even, only to then allow 3 more runs to score on us in the top half of the final inning.
And, our weakest hitters were scheduled at the plate.
But. those fellows managed to make contact and hit a series of singles bringing the score to 7-6 when Andrew came to the plate and delivered this smack that eluded two infielders and ended up in the middle of everybody but near nobody.
The final play at the plate was close, and indeed, after making a very tough catch off a bounce, had the catcher lowered his glove to make the tag, the game would have been tied and things would have continued...but I suspect he thought it was a force play at the plate and he raised his glove away from the sliding baserunner.
