LuxRender is a completely free, open source, physically based renderer with many contributors led by Jean-Philippe Grimaldi. LuxRender version 1.5 introduces the following features:
- microkernel architecture for significantly faster rendering,
- biased path tracing engine (including tiled rendering, radiance clamping and many more),
- adaptive rendering,
- Intel Embree-based accelerator,
- Laser light source type
- arbitrary clipping planes,
- pointiness option for materials,
- volume priority system,
- hair strand primitives,
- up to 16 times faster exporting for meshes
- new 3Ds max plugin,
- volumetric emission system.
